A relatively new yet elite level men’s professional golf tour. LIV Golf operates on a closed league style format and is designed to be completely different from traditional tours, with fewer tournaments, far less intensive schedules, and guaranteed player contracts on top of prize money. There is also a team element built into the format that runs alongside the individual competition.
The tour takes place between February and August, but tournaments are well spaced out so there are usually only two each month. Each tournament has a $25 million prize purse, with $20 million for the individual competition and $5 million for the team competition.
This means there isn’t really a flagship event like there is in other tours. However, key differences such as a smaller field, shotgun starts, the fact there is no cut, and the fact that events are played over 3 rounds (54 holes, hence LIV in Roman numerals) rather than 4, make LIV Golf a faster and more condensed experience for players and fans.
